Utah state trooper struck on highway in wintry conditions

Sergeant Cade Brenchley with the Utah Highway Patrol survived with broken ribs and a broken scapula after being struck by an out of control vehicle along a wintry highway in Sardine Canyon, Utah

Sergeant Brenchley, a second-generation trooper, was responding to reports of multiple ‘slide-offs’ in the canyon area when he was struck from behind, the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a statement. He was taken to Logan Regional Hospital for treatment.

“This is the 11th trooper hit on Utah roads this year (January 1-March 25). In 2017, 10 troopers were hit. In only three months, we have unfortunately surpassed that unacceptable number,” the Department’s statement added.

Authorities thanked members of the public for using his radio to call for help.
