The incident occurred in late afternoon according to local time after which rescue teams including India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Uttar Pradesh police reached the spot and cranes were deployed to clear the debris and rescue trapped people.
Modi tweeted that he was “extremely saddened” by the loss of lives and asked officials in the state to provide all possible support to those affected. Meanwhile, Chief of India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state, Yogi Adityanath announced an ex-gratia amount of 500,000 rupees ($7404.12) for the kin of the deceased and a sum of 200,000 rupees ($2961.65) for the grievously injured.
