Zombies take over Santiago in an annual zombie walk

The streets of Santiago were overrun by zombies as the ghoulish undead came out for the city's annual Zombie Walk.

Participants donned their best zombie looks with elaborate face paint and costumes as they marched through the streets of the Chilean capital.

This year marked the 10th year of the Santiago Zombie Walk which has drawn thousands of “walkers” in past years.

Zombie walks have taken off in recent years with the commercial success of zombie movies and TV shows like World War Z and the Walking Dead.

The Zombie Walk phenomenon began in Sacramento, California in 2001. Since then, the event has spread to major cities around the world including New York, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Singapore, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, and Frankfurt.
