Snow disrupts road transport in northern India

Heavy snowfall in India's northern hill town of Shimla severely affected vehicular movement

The picturesque tourist hub of Shimla received season’s first snowfall on Tuesday (January 23). The lower region of the town received around two inches of snow while the upper reaches of the state received around seven to eight inches of snow.

A tourist hoped local authorities would swing into action as soon as possible and clear the snow. Around 200 routes in the state have been affected by snow.

The temperature in the hilly region has also plummeted several notches below the freezing point.
