Stars explain why Time’s Up on SAG red carpet

The Screen Actors Guild awards (also known as the SAGs) took place on Sunday (January 21), coinciding with a weekend of women's marches across the United States.

Throughout awards season, talk on the red carpet in Hollywood has been consistently about safeguarding the workplace against sexual harassment and abuse as well as pay equality.

But, unlike in previous iterations, why have these issues remained so strongly in the public eye over the past year? Many of the stars and members of SAG cited different reasons, ranging from Trump’s presidency to investment of money into solving the situation by powerful people.

Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ responded to a situation where a fan had edited all the women out of the two and a half hour film and posted the female-free 46 minute version online.

“You know, I think that it says a lot about how far we have to go,” she said, adding “Change is coming and we are not stopping.”
