India’s Rahul Gandhi hits out at federal government over Rafale fighter jets deal

India's opposition Congress party President Rahul Gandhi said former defence minister Manohar Parrikar was unaware about Prime Minister Narendra Modi changing the Rafale contract, as that moment, the former was 'buying fish' in western Goa state.

Gandhi made the comment while was addressing a public rally here ahead of state assembly elections.

India had a signed a deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from France for around $8.7 billion, the country’s first major acquisition of combat planes in two decades and a boost for Modi’s plan to rebuild an ageing fleet. However, Gandhi accuses the Modi-led federal government of negotiating an overpriced deal in the purchase of the jets from France-based Dassault Aviation.
