India’s weather officials issue warning to locals ahead of cyclone Gaja

Residents and fishermen based in southern India's Tamil Nadu were issued a warning by India's Meteorological Department (IMD) as cyclonic storm Gaja barrels towards the region, expected to make landfall on Thursday (November 15).

More and heavier rainfall is expected in Cuddalore, Nagai, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Tuticorin and Ramanathapuram, the director of Chennai’s Regional Meteorological Centre Balachandran said.

Locals have been advised to stock up on water and food supplies for the next few days.

Rescue forces including navy, coastguard and disaster response forces are also on high alert.
