The world’s biggest and most popular NYC Marathon will take place today

50K Runner will hit NYC Marathon

Three-times TCS New York City Marathon champion Mary Keitany said she is ready to battle last year’s winner Shalane Flanagan to win this year’s race.

Keitany won the marathon in New York City in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and said New York feels like home.

“Since this is the seventh time coming to New York. So it’s like I’m at home. I’m proud to be again here with my kids and my family to cheer me and support me,” she said during a media event on Thursday (November 1).

Earlier this year in London, Keitany sought to break Paula Radcliffe’s 15-year-old world record but failed. Keitany placed fifth in the April race.

“In a race, you have to face challenges. So coming in number five in London for me, I can say it’s part of life,” Keitany said.

Fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor is seeking to defend his champion title after winning his first major marathon last year in New York.

“I’m optimistic,” said Kamworor. “I’m looking forward to running my own race. I have trained well.”

More than 50,000 runners will participate in the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 4.
