Mayor Turner Honors Two Outgoing Harris County Judges

By: Paige Hubbard

Mayor Turner along with city officials attended the Harris County veteran’s treatment court judicial reception to honor two outgoing judges. Mayor Turner presented the men with a proclamation for all their contributions they have made in the community.

“I was not expecting this, and it is quite a surprise this is a community that I’ve been a part of for years and I am proud to be a part of this community,” said Marc Carter.

“You go about your business and you try to keep a low profile and do what you think is right and for people to acknowledge it like this is huge,” said Mike Fields.

The men of the hour were Judge Mike Fields and Judge Marc Carter. During the ceremony they were highlighted for all the hard work they put in at the Harris County Civil Court House and throughout their careers. Now they enter a new chapter in life as they make their exit from the court room.

Judge Marc Carter is a veteran who has been serving the country since 1981. He shared with NTV Houston what this day means to him as he embarks on his new chapter in life.

“To leave really is like being separated from the military again but the difference is working with these veterans all these years I do have the skills to make a change in my life and be OK with change,” said judge Carter.

Judge Mike Fields is no stranger to hard work as he has been serving the community for over a decade. His legacy will forever live through the staff members he worked alongside with during his time as judge.

“I’m excited for them the work that you do a veterans Court is like no other work for a long time I thought maybe I did all I could do within a veteran court opportunity came up and then I realize there was so much more to give and that’s a public service is about giving back to other people so it’s been a blessing it’s been a blessing for me,” said Mr. Fields.

In closing I leave, you with a message from Judge Mike Fields.

“Never give up, no matter how bad things get, don’t ever quit, don’t ever give up. There are people out there that will help you, a lot of those people are in this room and if you can’t find them, you can find me,” he ended.
