Over the weekend news broke out that Kirstjen Nielsen resigned from her position as homeland security secretary.
Her resignation begs the question, is anyone capable of pleasing president Trump who holds the title?

Trump took to his twitter account to make the official announcement on Sunday, this comes after months of reported tensions between the two on issues such us as immigration and U.S. border security policies.

“Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving her position, and I would like to thank her for her service,” Trump tweeted.

It is said that the tenuous relationship became more fragile in the spring of 2018 after Nielsen hesitated to sign a memo which would implement Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy. The policy would result in 2,500 children being separated from their parents at the U.S. –Mexico border.

Since Nielsen’s resignation was announced, it has also been alleged that president Trump would call Nielsen in the wee hours of the morning demanding she stops migrants from crossing the border. It has also been said Trump used to berate her in front of peers and members of the cabinet in which resulted in her drafting up a resignation letter months ago.

However, she contemplated her decision and decided not to hand it in. Her decision to step down was quickly revisited just a few months after she handed in her letter this past Sunday.

“I can say with confidence our homeland is safer today than when I joined the Administration. We have taken unprecedented action to protect Americans. We have implemented historic efforts to defend our borders, combat illegal immigration, obstruct the inflow of drugs and uphold our laws and values,” Nielsen wrote in her letter.

“Thank you again for the privilege to serve the American people and to lead the outstanding men and women of the Department of Homeland Security,” Nielsen wrote. “Supporting these patriots has been the honor of a lifetime,” Nielsen ended.

President Trump announced that with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan McAleenan would be filling in as acting DHS secretary, adding that he had “great confidence that Kevin will do a great job.”

It is cited that Nielsen would often try to reason with Trump when it came to immigration and border security issues.

Now, it is still unclear to the exact reason why Nielson resigned, however, some believe it is because Nielsen would often try to reason with Trump when it came to immigration
