Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 1400 East 36th Street about 4:05 p.m. on Saturday (May 18).

The suspect, Joshua Ofaron Williams (b/m, 34), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Eugene B. Scott, 40, who was pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Patterson and M. Arrington reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address.  A witness stated Mr. Scott was walking up the street when a suspect drove up in a white Dodge Avenger with the driver’s side window down.  The suspect pointed a gun out the window and fired several shots at Scott, striking him multiple times.  The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle.  Paramedics transported Scott to the hospital.

At about 8:30 p.m. that same evening, Williams was found intoxicated behind the wheel of a wrecked white Dodge Avenger.  He was taken into custody and, at that time, charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #9.

Further investigation determined his involvement in Scott’s death and, on Sunday (May 19) he was charged with murder.
