Mexico City is not only the world’s largest city; it now holds the title for making the biggest “torta” sandwich ever prepared in Mexico.

On Wednesday, July 31st, dozens gathered in Mexico City to watch chefs create the record-breaking super torta sandwich.

Organizers say the super sandwich runs 236 feet long. This is all a part of the “torta challenge” that was made to increase the status of the Mexican sandwich.  They say, in the last couple of years or so, the Torta has been left behind due to increased consumption of mass-marketed fast foods.

Each section of the torta was composed to represent flavors that local cooks have made over the years.

What makes this different from the traditional sandwich? Well, the torta is way bigger in size for a start and is made up of a variety of different ingredients like thousands of pieces of bread, lettuce, onion just to name a few.

So the next time you’re in Mexico City and feeling hungry bring a friend, or two or three to try out the record-breaking combo.
