More gold for United States and Canada at Pan Am Game

Kara Eaker of the United States took gold in the beam and silver in the women's floor exercise on the final day of the gymnastics competition at the Pan Am Game in Lima, Peru on Wednesday (July 31).

Eaker, aged 16, produced a superb performance on the beam, scoring 15.266 points, 1.7 points ahead of Canada’s Elsabeth Black of Canada.

Eaker’s bid for a third gold of the Games, after being part of the United States’s team victory last Saturday (July 27), was thwarted by Canadian Brooklyn Chloe Moors who beat Eaker into second place in the floor exercise. Moors scored 13.900, with Eaker on 13.800.

Audrys Nin of the Dominican Republic won gold in the men’s vault with 14.416 ahead of Guatemala’s Jorge Alfredo Vega with 14.383 while Isaac Nunez of Mexico won the men’s parallel bars with 14.433. Brazil’s Caio Souza took silver with 14.366.

Canada dominated the artistic swimming with Claudia Holzner and Jacqueline Simoneau winning the duet before Canada took the team competition a few hours later.

The weightlifting competition concluded on Tuesday (July 30), with Fernando Saraiva Reis of Brazil winning the men’s +109kg division with a combined total of 420kg.

Basketball got underway on Wednesday, with the United States opening with a 119-84 thrashing of the Virgin Islands in Group A of the men’s event.
