Bencic edges Kvitova for first WTA Finals win

Belinda Bencic kept her WTA Finals hopes alive on Tuesday (October 29) as she rallied to a 6-3 1-6 6-4 victory over Petra Kvitova in Shenzhen.

Despite a second set wobble, Bencic won the last three games of the match to seal victory and will next face Naomi Osaka’s injury replacement Kiki Bertens in her final round robin match in the Red Group.

Although Kvitova has lost her opening two matches, the Czech remains in semi-final contention along with Bertens and top seed Ashleigh Barty, who she next plays.

Earlier Bertens came from a set down to stun Barty 3-6 6-3 6-4.
