In New York, early bird shoppers storm Macy's for Black Friday deals

Posted by NTV Houston on Friday, November 29, 2019

U.S. retailer Macy’s got a jump start on Black Friday by opening on Thanksgiving afternoon as retailers compete for shoppers ahead of the biggest shopping days of the year, the unofficial kickoff of holiday gift buying.

Video provided by Macy’s showed shoppers flocking to the retailer’s flagship store in Herald Square in Manhattan for early bird deals on Thursday (November 28).

The period between the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas can make or a break a retailer, accounting for as much as 40 percent of total revenue for the year.

The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally when retailers offer “doorbuster” deals attracting frenzied bargain hunters.
