Canada’s Trudeau asked Iran’s president Rouhani to work to de-escalate tensions

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday (January 11) said Iran must take full responsibility and be held accountable for shooting down a Ukrainian plane and killing all 176 aboard, including 57 Canadians.

Iran admitted earlier on Saturday to having shot down the plane in error.

Iranian President Rouhani committed to collaborating with Canadian investigators, working to de-escalate tensions in the region, and continuing a dialogue, Trudeau said.

When asked about protests in Iran, Trudeau said people around the world should be demanding “answers and accountability.”
